Big

Ansel took a bite of lamb. He savoured the salty burst of juices and smiled at the crackle of delicate bones between his teeth – the sound reminded him of happy days playing in human camps, amongst wooden huts.

He took another bite. It was these simple moments he enjoyed the most.

The third, final, bite. Some of his brothers would be done in two, but Ansel always saved the best for last. He popped the lamb’s head into his mouth. Mmm, the crack of the skull; the delicious, spongy brain meat.

He let out a contented belch. The ground shook.

  1. Ah, Ansel could give my daughter some competition in a burping contest then!

You got me, and it was awesome. I've got great, gory, contented imagery in my head now.

  3. Ha, his brothers are worse, FAR, they rush their food... ;)

Thanks Rebecca, I wasn't sure if the title gave too much away. =)

  5. I've got an image of a troll eating a tasty morsel, wishing he had more to eat. Great piece!

  6. Like Lara, images of a giant troll came to my mind too. You wouldn't want the catering bill for a party of these creatures would you?

  7. Fun, I have a different take. Ansel reminds me of Ansel Adams and therefore has me thinking about mountains and earthquakes. Like the bit about the human camp.

  8. I've learned so much about Ansel from this bit. I know he is ginormous, her is patient, he dances (and eats) at the beat of his own drum... great way of showing through action. And the sensual details, wow! I think I tasted some brains, and I definitely saw that bone-filled smile.

  9. Thank you for the comments! =)

Lara, Steve, he certainly is a biggun! Chickens, of course, are bite-sized snacks, down in one! ;)

Interesting association Aidan, I was just going for an Eastern European/ old world feel, but Ansel Adams' photography fits in a way, he has an amazing eye and a real feel for scale.

Magaly, it's all about the tasty, tasty brains... ;)
