“It is done, my lord.”
His lord? How
insincere. But then, if he could genuinely conceive of fealty he would be of no
use to me. He thinks he will feign subservience and be done with me once I
grant him his apotheosis. Fool.
He holds the newspaper high. The headline is his, again;
they have dubbed him The Hangman of
Headley. Proud fool.
He thinks I am deceived by his false obeisance
but his pride blinds him to the truth. With each child hanged his soul
shrivels. Soon enough he will be empty and I will ride his husk.

Ohh dark, chilling, nasty! I liked it! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThank you, Helen. =)
DeleteMaking a deal with the devil never goes well!
ReplyDeleteAnd yet people keep making them... ;)
DeleteThanks, Larry. =)
Rough existence when even murder won't please your boss - if not unusual.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it... Always, "just one more, just one more." There's the expense account but do they consider the personal time you put in for hiding the bodies, setting up alibis, cleaning the crime scene, disposing of evidence, bribing officials... ;)
DeleteThanks, John. =)
A fool indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe Devil plays his own games far better than anyone else, deception being a strong part of his natural make-up.
Well, exactly, and he's been playing these games for so long...
DeleteThanks, Steve. =)
100 spine chilling words telling quite a story - wow. I really admire this technique of yours to incisively take us to the action via your character's telling thoughts.I'll remember to use this, thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Brinda. Thank you. =)
